Introduction

My name is Stacey L. Truesdell, and I am proud to be a candidate for Probate Judge in November. Probate Court Judge is a non-partisan position, the judge answers to neither party, but serves the entire community. The position of Probate Court judge is also one of great responsibility. I believe Antrim County needs and deserves an experienced and caring judge; one who has integrity, compassion, and knowledge; one who is actively involved in both criminal and probate law and has devoted their career to the special issues which confront a family involved in the legal system.

I am currently serving our community as Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Antrim County. Before serving as Chief Assistant, I was a Family Court referee for the 13th Circuit Court, and before that I was in business for myself, practicing family law for over 30 years. My comprehensive and varied experience uniquely qualifies me to serve our community as judge of the Probate Court.

  • As Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney I currently represent the people of Michigan in Probate Court, District Court and Circuit Court in cases involving both family and criminal matters. This may become very important l as there is a possibility that the 86th District Court will merge with the Probate Court; whether that occurs, it is likely that in 2025 the Probate Court judge will be asked to handle Antrim County District Court cases.

  • As a referee serving 4 years in the 13th Circuit Court, Family Division, I presided over hearings and trials and made recommendations to the judges on a wide range of family court matters. I was tasked with hearing court cases including post-divorce custody, child support, neglect and abuse, delinquency, and personal protection orders.

  • As a retained and court-appointed attorney I represented children in trouble, parents, and families in crisis in Probate Court, and adults in Guardianship and Conservatorship and mental health matters. As a private attorney I handled neglect/abuse, delinquency, divorce, custody, estate, mental health, misdemeanor criminal and civil matters.

As a judge, I will carry the knowledge and experience I have gained and apply the law fairly, without bias, and with an understanding of the issues and the current law.

In the coming months I will be travelling throughout Antrim County meeting with folks; introducing myself and listening to what you feel is important to our families. I hope to see you at a parade, a summer festival, or township meeting and I welcome any questions you may have or just hearing from you.
