FAQs

What does a Probate Court judge do?

Although this is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities, a Probate Court judge handles matters relating to wills and estates of decedents, mental health petitions, adult and child abuse and neglect issues, and divorce and custody. A Probate Court judge will also handle Personal Protection Orders, and juvenile delinquency cases. It has been proposed that the Antrim County Probate judge handle a portion of Antrim County’s District Court cases as well.

What is the difference between Family Court and Probate Court?

Nothing! Probate Court is sometimes referred to as Family Court.

Why do you want to be Probate Court Judge?

It is not uncommon that any family will have an interaction with the Probate Court at some point. Whether a child is in crisis, a marriage is ending, or a family member has passed or needs care, Probate Court may be involved. Since beginning my career in Omaha, my law practice has been grounded in family law. Over the years I have represented children and adults in all phases and in all matter of cases, and made tough decisions as a referee. I believe that our children are the future of our community, and issues facing a family require special attention and skill. I am dedicated to Antrim County families and believe that I have the experience, knowledge, and commitment to best serve our community.
